Hades 2: Shadow Torch Gameplay Share
Torch Introduction
The Shadow Torch, a dual-wielded weapon resembling an ice cream cone, is often referred to as the “twin staff” or “dual ice cream” in community discussions. Currently, there are multiple forms available for gameplay, but I’ll focus on the initial form.
As the initial form of the Shadow Torch (Mellinoe Form), its basic attack launches a ball, and it can enter a guided attack mode by long-pressing. In this mode, it can move and dash at a slower speed and consume 5 mana points at intervals to fire powerful orbs, which can bounce and deal high damage (50). Its special attack fires a penetrating orb from the side, dealing higher damage (20) compared to the basic attack, but its trajectory is arched, making it harder to control. The Ω special attack, when long-pressed, consumes 20 mana to generate two temporary rotating orbs around the player. It’s important to note that neither mode of the special attack causes any delay, meaning attacks cannot be interrupted, which is a weakness of the Torch.
(Enhancement: Each level increases the duration of the Ω special attack by 0.5s, up to a maximum of 2.5s. It’s recommended to max out this enhancement before playing.)
Core Gameplay
As an innovative weapon, the Torch offers excellent playability and strong attributes. However, the special attack delay seems too strong and has been reduced, making its strength somewhat awkward. Players seeking high heat, intensity, and speed can explore other weapon styles.
The core gameplay of the Torch focuses on the Ω special attack. Even the form enhancements suggest that the special attack should be the primary source of damage output. Combined with the humorously guided basic attack, the Torch smoothly transitions into a melee weapon.
The operational mode based on this foundation is quite simple. The core gameplay involves finding openings in enemy defenses, initiating intense special attacks, stacking orbs, and relying on dashing to ensure both accuracy and evasion. If facing unarmored enemies or interruptible elite enemies, the basic attack can be used to interrupt and minimize damage.
Build Recommendations
Core Blessing
Ocean God’s Replenishment — Tide Pool Convergence.
Since the Torch’s damage output relies on mana, choosing a blessing that replenishes mana is crucial.
Tide Pool Convergence is currently the best choice for mana replenishment. With the Torch’s high-frequency, moderate-damage Omega special attack, the frequency of triggering Ocean God’s Replenishment is quite high. This substantial mana replenishment creates a good cycle of mana and special attacks. Additionally, since continuous charging of the special attack can sometimes render other mana replenishment effects ineffective (such as those within a magic circle), picking up orbs avoids this issue. Therefore, Ocean God’s Replenishment is worth obtaining directly at the start.
Moreover, with Ocean God added to the blessing pool, there are many other high-quality blessings to choose from. In situations where there’s no intensity, Ocean God’s special attack, Blessing of Duality, Tempestuous Support, and Aqua Affinity are all powerful blessings.
Preferred Blessings
With Ocean God’s mana replenishment, the Torch’s damage output is generally sufficient. Therefore, other blessings are based on high-frequency attack rates for additional damage and functional effects.
Special Attack Selection
Almost all special attacks are viable. In the early stages, you can choose randomly and adjust based on subsequent blessings (such as Fire’s Fire Sea, Detonation, Lightning’s Thunder Love, Thunder Fire, etc.) (for low heat).
For medium to high heat levels, Ice special attacks are prioritized to compensate for the lack of crowd control in high-pressure minion environments. Alternatively, you can choose high-damage blessings like Hail of Love (Ice special attacks may have issues with fast/slow weapons, which can affect the experience).
Additional Damage Blessing Selection
Thunder God’s Accumulation — Static Tremor, Wind Affinity — Thunderous Resonance.
Hunter God — Firepower Support, Aimed Strike.
Love God — Heartbreak.
As well as various damage boosts and magic circles. These are standard styles and don’t need further elaboration.
Error Tolerance Blessing Selection
As a melee weapon, error tolerance is essential.
Various health bonuses — Ocean Affinity, Blessing of Duality, Love God’s health bonuses, etc.
Various damage reductions — Ocean God’s Accumulation, Ice God’s Earth Affinity, Love God’s Vulnerability, etc.
Hammer Recommendations
Note: Hammers are extremely important in this game!
Although the Torch can still be played without the corresponding hammer, upgrading the hammer yields tremendous benefits.
Recommendations:
Triple Cyclone > Escalating Agony > Magma Comet = Agile Cyclone.
Triple Cyclone directly adds an extra special attack orb, essentially increasing output by 1/3, not to mention the increased frequency of triggering other effects. Escalating Agony increases coverage area and damage, suitable for prolonged boss battles. Magma Comet is highly efficient against elites and yellow-armored enemies, while Agile Cyclone enhances player responsiveness.
